Red Light Therapy

Red Light Therapy

Red light therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses low-wavelength red light to support natural healing and rejuvenation.

It penetrates the skin to stimulate cellular energy, helping to reduce inflammation, improve circulation, and promote collagen production. Commonly used for skin health, muscle recovery, and pain relief, red light therapy is a safe, science-backed option for those looking to enhance wellness from the inside out.

At The Wellness Shed we use a state-of-the-art, medical grade red light therapy bed, meaning the treatment you’ll receive is much more concentrated and more effective than the red-light lamps you can use at home.

How does a Red Light Therapy machine work?

Red light therapy beds use specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light to naturally stimulate your body’s healing processes.

By penetrating the skin and reaching deep into tissues, this light energy enhances cellular function, increases ATP (energy) production, improves circulation, reduces inflammation, and supports tissue repair.

Sessions are painless, non-invasive, and typically last 10–15 minutes. Regular use may promote benefits such as improved skin tone, faster muscle recovery, joint pain relief, and overall wellness, without heat or UV exposure.

What to expect with Red Light Therapy

During your first visit at The Wellness Shed, you will be shown how to use the bed and once this is completed, you will be left in the room on your own to start your treatment. For maximum results and benefits, we recommend wearing minimal clothing during your treatment.

Undergoing a course of RLT is best because regular visits over 8 weeks will ensure you get the most out of your treatment. We recommend a more intense phase to begin with (2-3 sessions per week) and once you achieve your desired results i.e. inflammation is reduced, skin is clearer or brighter, you can reduce to a “maintenance” phase. This comes down to your own personal preference and could be once or twice a week/fortnight. Ultimately, this type of treatment is in your hands. We will leave it up to you to monitor your progress and decide how you use it.

Although RLT is safe for most people, it may not be suitable or advisable for everyone. The following contraindications are all reasons to avoid Red Light Therapy:

Malignant cancers, use of photosensitizing medications, recent burns or unhealed wounds, eye diseases or disorders, hyperthyroidism, general light sensitivity or photosensitivity, epilepsy or seizure disorders, fever or active infection, pregnancy, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), severe blood loss or active bleeding disorders.
